The best advice often comes from someone who's "been
there." That's why Parade magazines tips
for high school freshman, offered by graduating
seniors, are so valuable. Use the items on this
list as talk triggers with your teenagers/ they
can spur discussion about your kids' fears, concerns
and hopes.
- Elective classes such as PE will guarantee
you a good grade-but don't sacrifice that
grade by ditching or dressing as your are supposed
to.
- Don't overstress about your grades: They
are important but not everything.
- Teachers won't always accept late work.
Try to stay on top of things.
- It's hard to get up in the morning if
you stay up all night.
- Other kids will try to bring you down-especially
if you're a good student. Don't let them.
- Be aware that you have a record and any
trouble that you get in is recorded there-permanently.
- Get involved in clubs, sports and activities
that interest you. You'll find it makes getting
up in the morning a lot easier.
- Teachers play favorites - even though
they swear they don't.
- Steer clear of the seniors' lockers.
- Make the next four years count; you'll
never have another chance at them . . . unless
you have to repeat a year.
