42
deanery youth and adults packed their sleeping
bags, paint brushes and helping hands for
the deaenry mission trip in July.
We
visited the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation
in South Dakota and performed community
service and learned about the Lakota people.
A
big thanks to Joe Kraft and Craig Eberle
for taking our group out west and leading
them into experiences of faith.
Check out a few things we brought back from
our trip.

On
behalf of everyone in the New Albany Deanery,
we here at the Catholic Youth Ministries
office would like to extend a very sincere
thank you to Ray Lucas who served as our
Director of Youth Ministry for the past
18 years. Ray has been an incredible blessing
to the deanery, helping to make our youth
ministry program one of the best around.
In his time with the New Albany Deanery,
he created endowments that have helped our
youth ministry program flourish and continue
to make a difference in the lives of young
people while helping them along their spiritual
journey. Ray started the Faith in Action
program, and the Deanery mission trips,
which have given many youth and adults the
opportunity to serve those in need within
their community, and also to travel and
help those in communities less fortunate
than our own. Ray has been a shining example
of a servant leader to the youth of the
New Albany Deanery. He has encouraged many
young people to develop their leadership
skills and to take on active roles within
their community. Because of his creativity
and proactive spirit, Ray has brought many
wonderful activities and opportunities to
our youth ministry program. He has touched
the lives of so many people through his
ministry and we cannot thank him enough.
We wish him the best of luck and ask God
to bless him in all his future endeavors.
Send
Ray your own personal message of thanks!
NADCYM
welcomes Marlene Stammerman!
Marlene
grew up in Louisville, Ky and reconnected
to her Catholic Faith here in the New Albany
Deanery during her mid twenties through
St. Mary's Parish, New Albany and the deanery's
young adult ministry.
She
has spent the past 18 years serving the
Catholic Church in youth ministry. Starting
off as a volunteer youth minister for St.
Mary-New Albany for a couple of years, she
then moved up to Greenfield, Indiana and
served St. Michael Parish for 5 1/2 years
as their Coordinator for Youth Ministry.
Leaving Greenfield, she became the Director
of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese of
Indianapolis in December of 1997.
During
her 5 1/2 years as Director for the Office
for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, the
archdiocese hosted the 2001 National Catholic
Youth Conference. For the past 4 1/2 years
she has been serving St. Jude Parish on
the south side of Indianapolis. She continues
to be involved Nationally working on the
Programming Committee and as Thematic Park
Manager for NCYCs.
On
her move back to Southern Indiana and the
New Albany Deanery, she says, "It's
like coming home! I am so excited to be
back in the New Albany Deanery, to re-connect
with friends from the past, make new friends
and begin a new phase in my ministry. I
have been blessed to come back and forth
for various ministry events over the years
and every time I was back I always left
with my heart more full with joy and awe
of seeing how folks continue to open their
hearts and their lives and allow God to
work through them in touching the lives
of young people in Clark, Floyd and Harrison
counties. It is my hope and my prayer that
we continue to help young people connect
with the Holy Spirit and encounter a God
who loves them unconditionally and blesses
them abundantly - and that we share in this
mission together. I look forward to sharing
in the journey with each of you!"
Please
welcome Marlene at future YM events - she
begins her ministry with the NADCYM on Monday,
June 2, 2008!
